Return to MrFulci's Site

Since resurrecting this site in 2022, I decided to still keep this old, "Awards" page, and provide a bit of an explanation for it, also. Most of the sites that awarded my site with their award are now gone, however, I'll still keep them around since thinking about it so many years later, this is something that was a part of the early internet that seems to be gone, now. Awards were interesting at one point, they were a way to show appreciation for another site, get their, "Stamp of approval", so to say. Though, being older now, and thinking about it, it was also a bit of a snub to myself, when a site would not issue me an award, lol. Many sites didn't seem to care too much, and would just issue them to nearly anyone as long as they fit their category, as it did function like a banner link.

When I was younger the awards were nice, I enjoyed it when a larger site would give me their seal of approval. At one point I issued an award, and I will add a link near the bottom of this page for that. Thinking about it, so many years later, it was a nice gesture that seems to be lost nowadays. The award provided some encouragement to people, to keep going with their site, and also functioned as a banner link for the website issuing the award. I am not too sure when awards started to not be a, "Thing", however looking at the history of them here, the ones I received and gave out, it seems to be sometime around the early 2000s.

The changes in the internet during that time, would have probably been the coming of, "Social Media" sites. People stopped creating, or trying to create, their own websites, and went to the social media type sites, or the journaling sites. With those type of sites, they did provide an easy way for people to create an online presence. Not as much flexibility, however it did make things easy for many people. After that, personal sites seemed to fade away. Enjoy this bit of history!

Many years ago, awards were a bit of a thing. I had fun with it, and so did some others. There were also a few sites out there that would hold contests, where people would vote on which site got an award each month, 2 weeks, whatever. It was a silly and interesting time during the 90s internet. I decided to get into it and decided to give out some awards, also. First with a very simple award, and then when I got a bit used to doing the website thing, I created another version of the award. Now that it is 2022, and I am bringing my site back online, I am sticking with the same basic layout I had before. It's Historical!

This is how it would go, myself and others would oftentimes place, "Demo" images of the awards. I do wonder what font I used on, "Reward A", I don't think I have it, anymore... The way things would go, is if someone wanted to apply for my award, I'd ask them to e-mail me me their site's title, url, and which award they wanted (A or B), and any other information they wanted to include, such as a short description of their site. After that, I'd look over the site, and decide if I wanted to issue it my award. It was a bit silly, and thinking back on it, it functioned as a banner exchange, in a way, as oftentimes that site would later create an award and issue it.

At one point, I'd e-mail out the award to the person, then later I did what others I knew did, and that was to create a separate page with the awards, that way the person could save whichever award the wanted. I'd just e-mail the person a congratulatory message and include the url. Here is a link to it! - https://mrfulci.neocities.org/hiddenaward.html

Nowadays, if you want to grab an award, feel free to, just link it back to my site if you choose to display it. Also, be sure to e-mail me and let me know so I can add you to the page of links or whatever. Who knows, maybe even send me an award!
